Housing for Older Adults: Resources, Advocacy and Innovation

West Side Inter-Agency is sponsoring an educational session on Housing for Older Adults: Resources, Advocacy and Innovation. Join us for a compelling conversation with the diverse faces of housing for older adults on NYC’s Upper West Side and beyond. Speakers will discuss new and existing options including assisted living facilities, housing for the LGBTQ community as well as current advocacy issues related to housing for older adults. Innovative housing initiatives will be a focus. Borough President Gale Brewer will introduce by framing some of the current issues with housing.

Program begins at 9:15 AM promptly and ends at 10:30 AM.

Brendan Cheney

Director of Policy and Communications, New York Housing Conference

Brendan Cheney is the Director of Policy and Communications at the New York Housing Conference. He has been working on New York City policy, focusing on housing and homelessness, for more than 14 years. Before joining NYHC, Brendan worked at Gateway Housing, Politico New York (as a data and policy reporter), the New York City Council and the Independent Budget Office.

Paul Nagle

Executive Director, Stonewall Community Development Corporation

Paul Nagle brings over 30 years in both nonprofit administration and LGBTQ+ Activism to his role as Executive Director of Stonewall Community Development Corporation, which he helped found in 2013 which explores all models of housing development for LGBTQ+ older adults including mixed-use, apartment sharing, co-living, micro design and tenant defense to create affordable living situations.

Melissa Sheehan

Director of Business Development, 305 West End Assisted Living and The Bristal Assisted Living

Melissa Sheehan is the Director of Business Development for 305 West End Assisted Living and The Bristal Assisted Living, premier Senior Assisted Living and Memory Care Communities located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. In her role, she organizes and executes numerous educational and cultural opportunities designed to support professionals and families and raise awareness for the NYC older adult community. In addition to WSIACA, she sits on the Board of the New York Memory Center. She holds an MBA in Health Services Management from SUNY Polytechnic.

Sherry Cranmer

Director of Clinical and Social Services, West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc (WSFSSH)

Sherry Cranmer is the Director of Clinical and Social Services at West Side Federation For Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) was formed in 1976 by a coalition of social service agencies, religious institutions, and community organizations. Since 1980 WSFSSH has renovated or built 24 buildings comprising 1,700 units of housing in Manhattan and the Bronx, serving over 1,800 people
